Senior Exhibition Images 1 - 3

It took me a while to get going on my Senior Ex, but here it is! I chose these 3 specific pictures of Taeok out of a selection of 30 for many different reasons. In all three of the photos, he is doing a sort of abstract movement. I intended for them to look natural and not posed which I believe I succeeded in. At first, I was planning for him to do jazz movements, but it ended up becoming more modern than jazz. Although it was a change in what I had originally intended, it still contributed to the idea of my theme. I also photoshopped these pictures to have a warm feel to it. I adjusted the brightness and contrast along with the color balance. I plan on moving forward with my senior ex by taking more pictures of these beautiful dancers!I hope the rest of my images turn out well!

Lois Greenfield Biography

Lois Greenfield is a photographer known for being able to capture artistic and elusive movements. She specializes in being able to capture the human form in motion and her impressive use of composition. She studied anthropology and filmmaking at Brandeis University which is located in Boston Massachussetts where she graduated from in 1970. Greenfield began working as a freelance photographer with no formal training in photography and simply became more knowledgeable as a photographer through each project that she encountered. Her love for capturing movement began when she was sent to cover a dance concert and began photographing their dress rehearsals. In 1973, Greenfield moved from Boston to New York and as a result, she excelled in her photography skills through capturing the essence of dancers in every aspect of their form of dance. She now works for New York periodicals which include Sports Illustrated, Time, Elle, Vogue, Life, and The New York Times. Greenfield also shoots major contemporary dance companies which are well known throughout the dance world. With Greenfield having no professional training in photography, her love and dedication to her art form has allowed her to become successful photographer.

*Note: she's definitely my inspiration for my senior ex. The way she captures the movement of dancers is incredible! She also knows what props to use for each dancer which always adds more the photo.

Senior Exhibition Project Proposal

Summary of Request
Proposed by: Chelsea Lansang
Project Title: Movement in Dance
Class: ROP 1-2 (Period 4) and ROP 3-4 (Period 6)
instructor: Ms. Lorie Miles
Project Due Date: January 31, 2011

Project Description
Movement in Dance will contain portraits of dancers who are able to express their emotions through their body. These pictures will incorporate different types of dance forms including ballet, modern, hip hop, etc. The movement that they present in these pictures will demonstrate their technique and skill, along with the determination and hard work this art form required for them to get to their advanced level of dance. Along with the physical features and characteristics these dancers will portray, these photos will also allow them to reveal how movement has inspired them in different aspects of their lives and express their profound love for dance.

Type of Work
Dance

Concept
I will be taking pictures of the advanced dancers at the School of Creative and Performing Arts while they showcase their feelings through their bodies. These dancers will be doing specific types of movement that will exhibit their technique and skill. I will be using a white or black background depending on the type of dance these dancers will be doing. The lighting will also depend on their dance form and the movements that I'm going to have them illustrate for the camera.

Vision
I would like for the viewers to be able to take a look at these dancers and be able to respect them in every aspect of their art and have them realize that they have worked hard to be in the position that they're in now. I would also like to give them a chance to know what it feels like to be in the shoes of these dancers and in some way be able to give them a glimpse of their experience throughout the years. It would be of great satisfaction if the viewers were able to see the love that these dancers have for their gift of movement.

Inspiration
My inspiration for this project is the fact that I am a dancer. Although I chose to do photography as my Senior Exhibition, I am still enrolled in a dance class and I am still striving to succeed as an advanced dancer in ensemble. I personally know the hard work that it takes in one simple movement that others may take for granted. It may look like the most simplest type of movement, but behind that movement, there was sweat and hard work that were put in it.
The dancers I will be using are truly inspiring. To watch their hard work up on the Grand Theater makes you proud to be at a school such as this. Doing this project would allow me to give thanks to the dancers who have inspired me and many others at this school.

Equipment to be Used
Canon Rebel and lights (specifics will be determined)

Presentation
Images will be presented in a black frame that will be mounted on the wall. This will allows the viewers to look at one specific type of dance and movement at a time.
